Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that Israel is seeking to undermine a potential understanding between Iran and the United States, which he said is currently in its final stages of negotiation.
Speaking in an interview with state television, Araghchi said, “I must say frankly that this agreement has opponents, foremost among them Israel, which is looking for pretexts to sabotage it.”
He added that the draft understanding under discussion with Washington includes provisions for lifting the maritime blockade on Iranian ports and establishing arrangements related to the management of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
“The maritime blockade must be lifted completely. This is the first point mentioned in the agreement,” Araghchi said.
He further stated that Iran has made a “decisive decision” that the management of the Strait of Hormuz “will no longer be as it was before,” noting that consultations with the Sultanate of Oman on the matter are still ongoing.
