Cold Depression Deepens Today with Very Cold Air Mass, Heavy Rainfall, and Strong Winds

Rainfall is expected to be heavy at times, particularly in the northern and central regions, accompanied by thunderstorms and occasional heavy hail showers. From the early morning hours, snow showers are expected over high mountain peaks, sometimes mixed with rain, with limited accumulation—especially over the high southern mountains (Al-Sharah range).

Active westerly winds will prevail, accompanied by strong gusts at times reaching speeds of 80–90 km/h, which may lead to dust storms in the Badia and desert areas. During the night hours, the intensity of precipitation will decrease, while intermittent rainfall continues, and winds will shift to active northwesterlies at times.

The Meteorological Department warned in its report of the risk of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, particularly in the northern and central regions, including the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea areas. It also cautioned against the risk of heavy hail in some areas, the formation of thunderstorms, reduced horizontal visibility due to low clouds touching the ground and fog—especially over mountainous areas—as well as the danger posed by strong winds and their accompanying gusts in many regions. The report further warned of dust storms and poor to occasionally zero visibility in the Badia and desert regions, urging the public to exercise caution, avoid the risk of slipping on roads at the onset of rainfall, refrain from crossing water pools and wadis, and secure objects susceptible to being blown away.

On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to rise slightly. The weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy and very cold in most regions, with a continued chance of light and scattered rain showers from time to time in the western parts of the Kingdom. During the evening hours, the chances of precipitation will weaken and weather conditions will gradually stabilize. Winds will be moderate northwesterlies, becoming active at times.

On Thursday, another slight rise in temperatures is expected. The weather will be foggy in the morning and cold in most regions, while relatively mild in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba, with low-level clouds appearing. Winds will be moderate northwesterlies.

The weather will remain foggy in the morning and cold in most regions, and mild in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba, with moderate southeasterly winds.

Today’s maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to range between 7–3°C in eastern Amman, 5–1°C in western Amman, 4–0°C in the northern highlands, 3 to -1°C in the Sharah highlands, 10–2°C in the Badia regions, 8–3°C in the plains, 15–5°C in the northern Jordan Valley, 18–8°C in the southern Jordan Valley, 17–10°C at the Dead Sea, and 18–9°C in the Gulf of Aqaba.
