The messaging app WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is developing a new optional subscription that will provide access to exclusive premium features.
This subscription, which will be available in a future version of the app for Android users, will allow users to enjoy additional capabilities, offering a richer experience beyond the app’s basic features.

The subscription will include premium features such as exclusive stickers, the ability to pin more than three chats, app icon customization, and a special set of new chat ringtones, according to WABetaInfo, a site specializing in WhatsApp updates.
These represent the initial set of features, with the possibility of more being added later based on user feedback. However, since the subscription is still under development, some features and details may be modified before the official release.
The premium subscription will be optional, meaning users will not be required to subscribe unless they wish to enjoy an enhanced experience according to their preferences.
WhatsApp currently plans to provide access to the subscription through a waitlist. Once users join the waitlist, they will receive a notification when the subscription becomes available. If users choose to subscribe, they will be able to explore a rich set of new features designed to enhance the app’s existing capabilities.
Meta has already confirmed its plans to launch the WhatsApp subscription to TechCrunch.
One of the subscription features, app icon customization, will allow users to select their preferred app icon from several new options provided by WhatsApp, enabling them to personalize the app’s appearance on their devices in more ways.
