WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is working on a new feature for Android users that will give its Meta AI chatbot enhanced reasoning capabilities.
WhatsApp is preparing to support a new “Thinking Mode” for Meta AI, which is expected to roll out soon in an upcoming update.

With this new feature, users will be able to choose the interaction mode directly from a new menu within the chat with Meta AI, according to WABetaInfo, a website specializing in WhatsApp updates.
This menu will offer two main options: Quick Mode and Thinking Mode, making it easier for users to decide how they want the chatbot to respond based on their needs and the type of request they submit. Users will also be able to switch between the two modes at any time.
Quick Mode is designed specifically for speed, providing fast replies to simple questions and messages, prioritizing instant responses over deep or detailed analysis.
This mode features faster response times, even if the answers are brief or less detailed. It is also the default mode currently used by all users when interacting with Meta AI.
Meta now plans to make Thinking Mode available directly within chats with the Meta AI chatbot on WhatsApp—a mode designed for deeper reasoning.
When this mode is activated, Meta AI takes more time to process requests in order to analyze context, break down complex problems, and generate more accurate or better-structured answers.
Users can select this mode when working on complex tasks such as problem-solving, multi-step questions, summarization, comparisons, or planning.
With the introduction of Thinking Mode, Meta AI will finally align with other AI assistants that already support advanced reasoning capabilities.
Users will be able to switch between the two modes by tapping the AI mode selector button in the chat bar. Specifically, they can move from Quick Mode to Thinking Mode by tapping the lightning bolt icon.
Once Thinking Mode is activated, the icon will change to a light bulb, indicating enhanced reasoning is enabled. To return to Quick Mode, users can simply tap the light bulb icon again.
