Google has announced an update to its AI video generation model, Veo 3, aimed at meeting the needs of social media platforms. The update includes support for high-definition (1080p) output and the ability to generate vertical videos (9:16), the ideal format for apps like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.

This move is expected to accelerate the adoption of AI-generated content, especially with the launch of a faster and cheaper version called Veo 3 Fast.
Google confirmed that production costs have dropped significantly: the cost per second on Veo 3 is now $0.40, while Veo 3 Fast reduces it to just $0.15 per second.
With this update, Veo 3 becomes highly competitive against other tools like Runway and Pika, offering a combination of high quality and low cost. For content creators, this development allows the production of professional-looking videos without expensive filming equipment.
However, this expansion of AI tools raises concerns about the proliferation of low-quality or repetitive content, potentially prompting social media platforms to implement new mechanisms to differentiate between authentic and AI-generated content.
