Ajloun Nature Reserve
This reserve extends across several hills covered with oak, pistachio, carob, and wild strawberry trees. It includes a large part of the (Ishtfina) area near the city of Ajloun. The reserve was announced in 1988, with the release of the brown deer. It is equipped with camping areas that provide basic facilities for rural accommodation, allowing visitors to enjoy the diverse natural scenery and vegetation.
Aqaba Reserve
The Gulf of Aqaba is the northeastern branch of the Red Sea, and the city of Aqaba lies on its shores. This beach stretches for more than 180 km and widens to 25 km, bordering Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The Gulf of Aqaba is a unique environment for various marine species, especially the enchanting coral reefs, which thrive in the moderate temperature and calm waters. This creates an ideal environment for living and reproduction. The moderate salinity level in the sea allows for a rich marine ecosystem, home to over 110 species of soft corals, 120 species of hard corals, and more than 1000 types of rare and colorful fish, as well as numerous crustaceans. It also hosts nocturnal creatures such as crabs, shrimps, lobsters, sea turtles, dolphins, manatees, and harmless whale sharks. Aqaba is Jordan’s only seaport, connecting the country to the world via the seas. The city is surrounded by colored mountains and the deep blue sea along its 27 km coastline. In the last decade, Aqaba has received significant attention from the Jordanian government, becoming a special economic zone, which has rapidly transformed it into one of the most important sources of the national economy, as well as a vital environmental, economic, and tourist hub.
Dana Nature Reserve
Dana is a series of valleys and mountains extending from the far east of the Jordan Valley to the Araba desert. It covers an area of 308 square kilometers. Visitors to this region are greeted with a breathtaking landscape, where the steep mountains reflect sunlight, creating a mix of red and white hues on the rocks. The area is surrounded by dense green forests, which occasionally turn into hills and plains with golden sandy terrain. Over 37 species of mammals live here, along with 190 species of exotic, colorful birds, and more than 600 types of wild herbs and plants. This biodiversity and natural beauty make Dana a rare and exceptional place worth visiting.
Mujib Nature Reserve
This reserve is unique because it spans from the lowest point on earth at 410 meters below sea level at the Dead Sea to the highlands of Karak and Madaba, reaching up to 900 meters above sea level. This combination of extreme altitude and depth creates a rich environment with incredible geological and terrain diversity. The reserve is fed by seven seasonal streams, which support a remarkable range of biodiversity. It is home to more than 300 plant species and 10 species of carnivorous animals, along with numerous wild and migratory birds. The rugged mountains, which are difficult to access, provide a safe haven for wild goats, cats, and other mountain animals such as Nubian ibexes. This is a reserve worth visiting.
Shumari Nature Reserve
After this area was severely impacted by poaching and the near extinction of its wildlife, the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature took action in 1975, establishing it as a protected area of 22 square kilometers. It introduced and released rare species, which have since flourished, such as ostriches, Arabian oryx, gazelles, zebras, and several species of rare birds. Today, the reserve provides a safe haven for these endangered species. Visitors can observe and monitor these animals living naturally in a safe environment.
Wadi Rum Nature Reserve
Wadi Rum is a unique natural formation with towering mountains, colorful rocks ranging from yellow to red and orange, surrounded by sand dunes that stretch into an endless desert. The natural diversity of this landscape forms a stunning natural artwork created by the hand of God. The most striking feature of this natural environment is the calm and pleasant climate, especially in spring when it is filled with numerous rare wildflowers and plants. It is an ideal place for biodiversity, hosting over 120 species of birds, including the brown eagle, the raven with a forked tail, the yellow-eyed owl, and the golden eagle, along with mountain foxes, sand cats, and Nubian ibexes. The diversity of flowers, birds, and animals, combined with the high mountains, adds to its beauty. Visitors can also enjoy the sport of mountain climbing, with peaks rising more than 900 meters above the ground and descending into colorful rocks and sands. This is truly a site worth visiting and experiencing.
