Rents and Transport Drive Inflation

During the first seven months of the year, rents led the contributors to inflation, adding 0.71 percentage points, followed by transport (+0.52 percentage points), oils and fats (+0.26 percentage points), and tobacco and cigarettes (+0.17 percentage points).

In July, the transport group emerged as the primary driver of inflation, contributing 1.08 percentage points, followed by rents (+0.76 percentage points) and oils and fats (+0.29 percentage points).

Falling Prices in Select Goods Soften Inflation Rise

Conversely, price declines in several commodity groups helped curb broader inflation gains in July. Leading these offsets were fruits and nuts, which lowered the inflation rate by approximately 0.20 percentage points, meat and poultry (-0.07 percentage points), and dairy products and eggs (-0.05 percentage points).
