Jordan imported around 1.1 million mobile phones worth nearly JD116 million during the first nine months of 2026, according to customs data covering the period from early January through the end of September, said Ahmad Alloush, president of the Vision Association for Mobile Devices and Accessories Investors.

In a press statement, Alloush said the number of imported smartphones fell by about 17% compared with the same period in 2025, when around 1.3 million devices were imported. The decline amounted to approximately 224,000 phones, amid pressure from rising device prices on consumers’ purchasing power and market activity.
He said the average value of an imported device increased by around 15% to approximately JD106, compared with about JD93 during the same period last year. He noted that this average is calculated based on the value of imports divided by the number of devices and is affected by their specifications and price categories. It does not represent the final retail price paid by consumers.
Regarding retail prices in the local market, Alloush said price monitoring conducted by the association across a sample of 14 device categories showed that average prices rose by around 36% when comparing prices recorded in the third quarter with those in the first quarter. The average increase between the second and third quarters stood at around 28%.
He explained that price increases varied among devices. The price of one category rose from JD90 to JD175, an increase of nearly 94%, while another device increased from JD180 to JD275, a rise of JD95. He stressed that these findings apply only to the monitored sample and do not mean that all phones increased by the same percentage. They also refer to retail prices rather than the values recorded in import data.
Alloush attributed the rise in phone prices mainly to higher global memory chip prices, driven by growing demand as major companies expand investments in artificial intelligence and data centers. He explained that memory chips are a key component in manufacturing mobile devices, and higher costs are reflected first in factory prices and then in the cost of new shipments imported by traders into Jordan.
Alloush confirmed that importers and retailers continue to offer a wide range of brands, specifications and price categories through mobile phone stores across the Kingdom. He stressed the importance of comparing prices, warranties and after-sales services, and choosing devices based on actual needs and available budgets.
