Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said King Abdullah II’s visit to Australia aims to strengthen bilateral relations and expand areas of cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, investment, tourism and culture, as well as coordination on issues of regional peace and stability.

In an interview with Australian broadcaster ABC, Safadi said collective steps are needed to halt illegal Israeli actions that undermine prospects for achieving peace.
Safadi welcomed Australia’s recognition of the State of Palestine, stressing the need to fully implement the plan to achieve stability in the Gaza Strip.
He warned that the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip could worsen due to Israeli obstacles preventing the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian aid to more than two million Palestinians, who are being confined by Israel to 30% of Gaza’s territory.
