The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced on Thursday the closure of Mujib Road, which connects Madaba and Karak governorates, starting Saturday, October 18, 2025, for a period of three weeks. The closure is to complete landslide remediation work as part of a comprehensive plan to maintain vital roads and enhance traffic safety.

The ministry explained that the work at the site includes removing sliding materials, constructing slopes, terraces, and cuts in the mountainous area adjacent to the road, and rebuilding the damaged section according to the highest approved technical standards.
The project also involves installing advanced groundwater and surface water drainage systems and improving general safety elements to ensure a secure and stable traffic environment for road users.
The ministry urged citizens to use the Desert Road as a temporary alternative for travel between Madaba and Karak until the works are completed and to follow instructions from project staff and security personnel to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.
The total duration of the works at the site is planned to extend over 90 days.
