Jordan’s Grand Mufti, Ahmad Al Hasanat, announced that Monday will mark the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah for the Islamic year 1447 AH.

Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court also announced that Monday, 18 May 2026, will be the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH, according to the Umm al-Qura calendar. Accordingly, the Day of Arafah will fall on Tuesday, 26 May, and Eid al-Adha will be observed on Wednesday, 27 May.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Saudi Supreme Court said that the Crescent Sighting Committee convened to review reports regarding the sighting of the Dhu al-Hijjah crescent moon. After examining testimonies from credible witnesses confirming the sighting, the court declared Monday as the first day of the month.

The court added that the Day of Arafah will fall on Tuesday, 9 Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH, corresponding to 26 May, with Eid al-Adha following on Wednesday.

The UAE Fatwa Council also announced the confirmed sighting of the Dhu al-Hijjah crescent moon on Sunday evening after reviewing observation results and reports submitted by specialists and experts through the country’s approved observatory network, in cooperation with several specialized space and astronomy centers. It confirmed that Monday, 18 May, will be the first day of Dhu al-Hijjah, while Wednesday, 27 May, will mark the first day of Eid al-Adha in the United Arab Emirates.
