This came during the celebration of Arab Housing Day, which coincides with World Habitat Day, observed on the first Monday of October each year. This year’s theme is: “Rebuilding Communities Affected: Building a Better Future.”
Minister of Public Works and Housing and Chairman of the Corporation’s Board of Directors, Eng. Maher Abu Al-Samen, stressed during the ceremony the importance of the housing sector as a fundamental pillar of comprehensive development. He noted that housing is not merely shelter but a basic human right and a cornerstone of security, stability, and productivity.
He added that the government views the housing sector as a key tool for achieving social justice and improving quality of life, highlighting that the corporation has implemented several initiatives this year within the priorities of the Economic Modernization Vision, particularly under the pillar of quality of life and urban development.
Abu Al-Samen emphasized that the corporation’s vision is rooted in building “cities of the future” in line with the highest global standards, noting the implementation of quality projects across several governorates to meet the housing needs of different income groups.
He also pointed out that Jordan has prepared its second national report to monitor the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and submitted it to the UN platform, while also preparing the national housing file in cooperation with UN-Habitat and initiating the update of the national housing strategy. He said this phase presents an opportunity to strengthen Arab integration and exchange successful practices in developing the housing sector locally, regionally, and internationally.
For her part, the Director General of the Corporation, Eng. Jumana Al-Atiyat, affirmed that housing is a basic right for every human being and a key factor in building a safe and stable society, stressing that adequate housing provides a healthy environment that nurtures families and enhances national belonging.
She explained that the corporation launched several landmark projects this year, most notably the Al-Malahah project at the beginning of the year, and confirmed the ongoing efforts to develop housing policies and improve quality of life.
Al-Atiyat noted that current efforts include studies for low-cost housing projects and mechanisms to subsidize financing gaps for low-income families to help them own homes, in addition to preparing the final draft of standards for “cities of the future” in line with best global practices.
She stated that the corporation has been assigned to manage a project for providing residential land plots aimed at improving quality of life. Moreover, 1,039 plots have been allocated to teachers in recognition of their role in society, while planning has begun to redesign a number of state-owned lands in densely populated areas to allocate them based on government directives.
In this context, Al-Atiyat announced the opening of applications for the Al-Mohammadiyah project in Ma’an under the land development program, along with a lottery to allocate 10 commercial kiosks in Abu Nseir market. These kiosks will be leased to citizens with disabilities, humanitarian cases, and low-income individuals, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Development.
She stressed that this step comes in line with the Royal directives aimed at enhancing economic empowerment and supporting small crafts and enterprises in local communities.
Al-Atiyat highlighted that from 2015 to 2025, the corporation has delivered 71 projects across the governorates, totaling 14,918 residential plots. Work is ongoing on several other projects to be announced in due course, contributing to an increased supply of ready-to-allocate residential lands.
She also called on 1,757 beneficiaries of the following projects—Dabat Hanout, Al-Shamiyah (Aqaba), Ma’an/Lands, Al-Arja (Ma’an), and Al-Qadisiyah 1+2 (Tafilah)—to visit the corporation during this month to receive their registration deeds or contact (0797798505).
