Customs stop cigarette production line, seize 5 tons of smuggled tobacco

AMMAN — On Thursday, Director of the Customs Department Jalal Al-Qudah announced the seizure of illegal cigarettes, according to Al-Ghad news.اضافة اعلان

He stated that the cigarettes entered the country legally about three years ago and were later distributed illegally. Large quantities of smuggled tobacco, estimated at five tons, were seized for being utilized in hazardous ways.

Qudah explained that ongoing investigations have yet to reveal the brand of cigarettes that was counterfeited. He contended that, "there is no information regarding the quantities of tobaccos that exited the production line or the brand that entered the market.”

He stressed that smuggling does not only mean depriving the Treasury of fees and taxes, but also disrupting the commercial pattern in Jordan’s markets.
