The Southern Military Region foiled a major drug-smuggling attempt early Friday involving a guided balloon after detecting it as it attempted to cross the border into Jordanian territory.
Border Guard units in their area of responsibility detected the balloon, intercepted it and brought it down inside Jordanian territory. The drugs it was carrying were seized in coordination with the relevant security and military agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department.
The seized materials were handed over to the relevant authorities to take the necessary legal measures.
The Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army reaffirmed its continued efforts to counter smuggling and infiltration attempts along the Kingdom’s borders, monitor the various methods and means used to carry them out, and take the necessary operational measures to deal with and thwart such attempts.
Border Guard units continue to carry out their duties to protect the Kingdom’s borders and prevent any attempts that could threaten its security and stability.
