However, the committee has decided to postpone the Ramallah visit in light of Israel’s obstruction, which came in the form of a refusal to allow the delegation entry through the airspace over the occupied West Bank, which is under Israeli control, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The delegation includes Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and head of the committee, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, in addition to Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, who will be meeting his counterparts this evening and tomorrow.
In a joint statement today, the delegation emphasized that Israel’s decision to block the delegation’s visit to Ramallah and prevent them from meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and other Palestinian officials is a blatant violation of Israel’s obligations as the occupying power. The statement further condemned the move as a reflection of the Israeli government’s arrogance, disregard for international law, and ongoing unlawful policies and actions that continue to besiege the Palestinian people and their legitimate leadership, entrench the occupation, and undermine the prospects of achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
