Saudi and committee members asked the Water Ministry to address water challenges and find solutions that mitigate water waste.

Najjar said during the meeting that the ministry is working on a project funded by a US grant to replace water networks and water meters in all governorates of the Kingdom to reduce water losses.

Secretary-General of the Ministry of Water Muhannad Bashar Al-Mahamid said that assaults on the water pipes increase the percentage of water losses; adding that 58,000 attacks on main lines were reported during 2020.

Najjar said that the cost of the national carrier project is lower than extracting water from wells, as water wells are deep and require special high-priced pumping equipment.

Najjar indicated that the extraction of wells water needs to be treated from the radioactive materials it contains, according to the samples extracted, and this is expensive and requires electrical energy.
