Jordan’s national football team began its historic first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance with a 3-1 defeat to Austria National Football Team.
Austria took the lead through Romano Schmid in the 20th minute. Jordan equalized at the start of the second half when Ali Olwan scored in the 50th minute.
As Jordan searched for a go-ahead goal, defender Yazan Al-Arab inadvertently scored an own goal in the 76th minute, restoring Austria’s lead. Austria then sealed the victory with a penalty in stoppage time.
Jordan, known as Al-Nashama, will next face Algeria National Football Team before taking on Argentina National Football Team in its remaining group-stage matches.
