Jordan studying alternatives to cancelled U-18 India tournament

AMMAN — The Asian wrestling federation has canceled the Asia U-18 championship, which was scheduled to take place between June 23 and June 27 in India. Jordan was set to enter the tournament with three athletes: Suheib Al-Hasanat, Suheib Al-Marafa and Zaid Ishaq.اضافة اعلان

Member of the temporary wrestling committee, Alaa Al-Majali told Jordan News: “The temporary committee of the wrestling federation will discuss in its next meeting the technical report on the participation of athletes Ahmad Dahshan, Abdulkarim and Abu Dueij in Asian qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, in addition to searching for ways to return to holding internal events and an open tournament within the next two months.”

Majali noted that attendees at all events that may be held will be required to follow a “strict health protocol”.

She added: “We will discuss the situation of the national men’s and youth teams will be discussed, in addition to the extent in which their performance has improved for participation in the Ibrahim Mustafa and Pan Arab tournaments, scheduled for November in Egypt.”

For his part, head of the wrestling federation’s technical committee, Saleh Zureiqat, told Jordan News: “The temporary committee is currently studying the application of Jordanian athlete Ismael Ayoub — a Canadian resident — to represent the Kingdom in upcoming international and Asian championships. He has sent all his information to the federation for review, study and for a decision to be made.”

National wrestling teams are currently training under coaches Yahya Abu Tbaikh, Ramzi Al-Marafi, Hani Al-Marafi and Ibrahim Arar to stay in shape, ahead of anticipated events over the course of the coming months.
