Real Madrid maintained their perfect start to the new La Liga season with a 4-0 win over newly-promoted Malaga on Sunday, racing to a three-goal lead within 30 minutes before adding a fourth late on.

Jude Bellingham opened the scoring with an excellent individual effort, followed by an own goal from Malaga goalkeeper Alfonso Herrero, before Kylian Mbappé added a third with a powerful strike, putting the match well beyond Malaga's reach before halftime. Substitute Arda Güler completed the scoring with a fourth in second-half stoppage time at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The win took Real Madrid to nine points from three games, two points clear of Atlético Madrid and Alavés. Fourth-placed Barcelona, on six points, host Rayo Vallecano on Monday.
Having fielded the same starting lineup in the opening two league matches against Espanyol and Real Sociedad, coach José Mourinho made five changes for this game, with Marc Cucurella making his first start.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, deputizing for Denzel Dumfries, almost scored in the first minute, curling a right-footed effort from a tight angle just past the far post. Malaga responded in the 15th minute when Joaquín Muñoz's powerful right-footed strike from the edge of the box narrowly missed the top corner of Thibaut Courtois's goal, but the visitors' resistance soon collapsed.
Bellingham broke the deadlock in the 19th minute with a brilliant run, latching onto a loose ball near the edge of the box, beating three defenders, and slotting a low shot under Herrero. Real doubled their lead seven minutes later when Herrero saved a Mbappé effort, Bellingham headed the rebound goalward, and the ball ended up in the net after Herrero collided with a teammate while trying to clear it. Mbappé added a third in the 30th minute, meeting an Alexander-Arnold cross with a powerful strike from the center of the box.
Real eased off after the break, though Bellingham nearly added another in the 55th minute when his effort from inside the box struck the post. The second half was otherwise quiet until Güler, shortly after coming on, launched a fine attack and combined smoothly with Vinícius Júnior before finishing into the net.
Real Madrid travel to Real Betis in the league on Friday, before opening their Champions League campaign days later against Inter Milan.
