Autumn usually means simplifying hair and makeup routines, while spending less time thinking about suitable clothing. As temperatures fall and the weather becomes relatively more stable, common concerns such as frizzy hair and sweating tend to decrease.

However, September this year was warmer and more humid than expected. Experts link this to the multiple heatwaves experienced during the summer months and indicate that such conditions could become more common in the future. This could mean that the beginning of autumn may bring higher temperatures and increased rainfall, creating what could be described as a more humid version of the season.
With humidity levels rising, the effects of the weather become more noticeable in everyday appearances: hair becomes more prone to frizz, makeup loses its staying power more quickly, and clothing can increase the likelihood of feeling sweaty and humid. So how can you adapt your beauty routine and clothing choices to these conditions?
High humidity affects the structure of hair. Moisture in the air can interact with hair fibers and cause them to swell, making hair more prone to frizz and loss of smoothness. The problem is particularly noticeable in dry or color-treated hair, making enhanced hydration an important part of hair care in humid weather.
Moisturizing the hair is an essential step. It helps nourish the hair, enhance shine, detangle it, and make it softer and easier to manage and style. A leave-in conditioner or a specialized restorative spray can also be added to the hair-care routine to boost hydration.
It is recommended to remove excess water from the hair before drying it, as heavily saturated hair may not benefit from styling products as effectively.
It is also advisable to avoid using the highest heat setting on a hair dryer when it is unnecessary, although thicker and coarser hair may require higher temperatures.
To reduce direct heat exposure, avoid holding the hair dryer close to the strands for extended periods. Instead, move it along the hair while directing the airflow downward to help keep the hair surface smoother.
For thick or frizz-prone hair, the nozzle attachment that comes with a hair dryer can help direct airflow more precisely and assist in smoothing the strands.
After moisturizing and drying the hair, it is important to use a product that helps hold the hairstyle and control frizz.
If frizz appears during the day, it is better to resist the urge to run your hands through the strands, as touching the hair can disturb the strands and make frizz more noticeable. Instead, apply a light mist of a conditioning hair spray to the surface of the hair to help smooth and rearrange it.
High humidity can also affect makeup’s staying power, causing it to move or fade earlier than usual. It can also make the skin appear more sweaty rather than producing the desired dewy glow.
Humid weather calls for reconsidering the number of skincare and makeup layers rather than simply relying on more powder.
Combining multiple layers of skincare and makeup products, along with heat, humidity and increased sebum production, can make cosmetics move more easily across the skin.
Therefore, start with a light layer of moisturizer and wait until it is absorbed before applying makeup. It is also preferable to minimize the amount of foundation and concealer as much as possible, while a BB cream can be chosen as a lighter alternative.
When applying foundation, gently press it onto the skin rather than dragging it across the surface. Then use only a small amount of powder in areas where shine tends to increase, such as the T-zone. The goal is not to completely eliminate the skin’s natural glow, but to control areas where shine may become excessively oily.
When makeup needs to be refreshed during the day, do not apply powder immediately. First remove excess moisture and oil from the skin, then reapply makeup. This helps prevent products from building up and appearing heavy or cakey, resulting in a fresher appearance.
