In January, a total of 11 patents were registered, 10 of which were local, according to the Directorate of Industrial Property Protection at the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply.

During the same month, 717 trademarks were registered, and 401 trademarks were renewed. Additionally, the Directorate renewed 28 patents, granted one trademark license, allowed name and address changes for 108 industrial properties, and transferred 70 properties.
Under the law, a patent is defined as “any inventive idea achieved by an inventor in any field of technology, relating to a product, a manufacturing method, or both, that provides a solution to a specific problem in any of these fields.”
Patent registration involves “all procedures related to patent applications submitted to the office, from the stage of guiding inventors on how to submit their application to the issuance of the final patent certificate.”
These procedures include technical and formal steps to verify that the application meets all legal requirements, as well as actions related to third-party needs, such as publication in the official gazette or record inspections.
A “trademark” is any visible sign used or intended to be used by a person to distinguish their goods or services from those of others.
