Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday criticized US President Donald Trump, describing the announced agreement with Moscow on oil supplies as a “shameful” decision that reflects “weakness” on Washington’s part.
“This is certainly not fair, and it is certainly shameful on the part of our partners. In my view, it is also a weak decision,” Zelenskyy told reporters as a Ukrainian delegation visited the United States on Friday and Saturday to meet Trump administration officials.
Trump had announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin had committed to supplying millions of tons of diesel to US and global markets over several months following what Trump described as a “very productive conversation.”
Trump said on social media that Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the US and global markets, followed by another 500,000 tons in November and one million tons shortly afterward. He added that Russia could rapidly supply another three million tons depending on the condition of its refineries.
Putin confirmed that Russia was ready to “supply the US and global markets with oil” amid the fuel price crisis.
The Kremlin said following a phone call between Putin and Trump that “the Russian side reaffirmed its readiness to supply the US and global markets with oil and petroleum products.”
