U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned on Thursday that Syria faces the risk of sliding into a full-scale civil war if the current government fails.

Speaking to reporters, Rubio said: “Let’s assume this government’s project fails—whether because they caused it to fail or simply couldn’t make it work. In that case, Syria will descend into a full-blown civil war.”
He emphasized that the United States is interested in giving Damascus a chance to succeed in rebuilding the country, noting that otherwise, Syria could become “an ungovernable space and a platform for terrorist organizations and other dangerous elements in the region.”
“The failure of this government would mean a completely new war awaiting us,” the Secretary of State added.
Earlier this month, on November 10, Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa visited the White House—the first-ever visit by a Syrian president—and held talks with U.S. President Donald Trump on various issues concerning Syria and the Middle East. (RT)
