Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Thursday that Turkey is considering ways to assist Saudi Arabia in countering Houthi attacks, particularly by providing air defense support, while stressing that Ankara would not deploy forces to another country to launch attacks from its territory under the “Mecca Agreement,” which he described as defensive in nature.

Fidan said Turkey had completed the necessary procedures to refer the “Mecca Agreement” to the Turkish Parliament for ratification.
He also said Turkey does not expect Israel’s foreign policy to change following the elections scheduled for October 27, regardless of the outcome.
Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan agreed on Monday to take practical steps toward establishing a regional security framework under the “Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement” during the first meeting of the agreement’s Political and Defense Strategic Committee in Istanbul.
The three countries signed the mutual defense agreement in Mecca on August 7. It aims to strengthen their security and mutual deterrence, stipulating that an armed attack against any one of them would be considered an attack against the others, while expanding defense cooperation.
The agreement was reached amid the ongoing war in the Middle East and the changes it has brought to regional alliances and influence. The three countries have said the agreement is intended to support security, peace and stability in the region and beyond.
