In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, marking the first anniversary of Spain’s official recognition of the State of Palestine, Sánchez stated:

"A year has passed since we recognized the State of Palestine. The suffering in Gaza is unbearable. Spain will continue to raise its voice more loudly than ever to end the massacre the world is witnessing today."

The upcoming meeting between Sánchez and Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob in Madrid is expected to include discussions on potential sanctions against Israel.

Spain officially recognized the State of Palestine on May 28, 2024, joining other countries in a move that Sánchez described at the time as a step toward peace and justice in the Middle East.
