Israeli bank freezes UNRWA account

TEL AVIV — According to reports from Israeli media, Israeli bank Leumi has decided to freeze the account of UNRWA, following Israel’s allegations of the agency's involvement in the events of October 7, 2023, Al-Ghad reported. اضافة اعلان

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the privately-owned bank, with Israel holding 14 percent of its shares, made this unusual decision following reports of UNRWA employees' involvement on October 7.

According to the newspaper, the bank announced its decision in a letter sent to UNRWA, citing the increasing flow of news regarding the agency’s activities in recent days and expressing real suspicion of the agency's illegal use of funds against Israel.

Furthermore, the bank claims to have recently noticed a significant number of unusual financial activities by the agency through its banking services.
