The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Assad Al-Shaybani, met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
According to a statement issued by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries based on mutual respect and good-neighborliness, boost economic cooperation mechanisms, and review the latest regional and international developments of mutual interest.

The Lebanese National News Agency quoted the Syrian Foreign Minister regarding his potential meeting with Hezbollah, stating: "If the public interest requires a meeting with Hezbollah, we are open to it," while emphasizing that "the discussion with Berri was confined to how to strengthen relations between the two countries."
For his part, President Aoun affirmed that "Lebanon is committed to establishing fraternal relations between the two countries based on cooperation, coordination, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs," according to the Lebanese National News Agency.
He added that Lebanon is keen on Syria's stability just as Syria is keen on Lebanon's stability, confirming ongoing coordination between the two countries in border control, preventing human trafficking, weapons smuggling, and "everything that harms the security of both nations."
President Aoun welcomed the "formation of the joint high committee between the two countries to safeguard the interests of both Lebanon and Syria alike."
