Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has launched its new artificial intelligence model, Gemini 4 Argon, designed to handle a wide range of tasks, including coding, research and writing.

Google is placing particular emphasis on the model’s cybersecurity capabilities, saying Argon was specifically developed to be highly effective in this field.
The model is currently being made available to a limited group of Google’s cybersecurity partners through its Fairwind Program.
Argon was specifically trained for cyber defense work, and the company says it can independently detect, verify and address critical software vulnerabilities.
Coding and Engineering Capabilities
Google says Argon also has strong coding and engineering capabilities, and that its employees have already begun using it in their daily work.
These applications include identifying and fixing software bugs, as well as migrating codebases from one system or environment to another.
Google is also promoting the model’s ability to analyze visual content, whether by understanding the content of lengthy videos or analyzing charts and graphs.
The company said in a blog post that Argon was designed to maintain deep reasoning capabilities throughout complex, lengthy workflows, fundamentally changing how Google employees work and build products.
Ongoing Race Among AI Companies
Major artificial intelligence laboratories have accelerated the release of increasingly powerful models in recent months, seeking to outperform their competitors despite repeated warnings from the companies themselves about potential AI risks.
OpenAI recently launched the Astra model, describing it as its best model to date.
Anthropic also launched the Fable model earlier this year, making similar claims about its capabilities.
Google Says Argon Outperforms Rivals
AI companies routinely present their models as outperforming competitors, and Google is no exception.
The company said Gemini 4 Argon achieved significantly higher results than OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Fable and Opus models across a range of AI performance benchmarks.
Google cited results from Vals, a company specializing in AI model evaluations, which currently ranks Argon at the top of its model index.
Gemini Sees Major Growth
After previously being viewed as lagging behind in the AI race, Google has made notable progress with Gemini in recent months.
Google announced in August that the Gemini app had surpassed one billion monthly users.
That figure puts the app in direct competition with ChatGPT, after OpenAI also recently announced that ChatGPT had reached one billion monthly users.
