According to her, excessive sweating may be associated with anxiety disorders, including panic attacks.
During a panic attack, the sympathetic nervous system becomes activated, which can cause sudden sweating even while a person is at rest.
This is often accompanied by other symptoms, such as a rapid heartbeat, trembling, shortness of breath, and a feeling of inner tension or fear.
The doctor warned that excessive sweating may also occur during episodes of low blood sugar, a condition in which blood glucose levels drop sharply in people with diabetes.
“Sudden sweating in some cases may be caused by infectious diseases, including tuberculosis or chronic viral infections,” she said. “These conditions are usually accompanied by other inflammatory symptoms, such as fever and weakness.”
She added that sweating may sometimes indicate disorders affecting internal organs.
For example, cold, clammy sweating accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, severe weakness, or dizziness may be a sign of acute cardiovascular conditions.
