This year's "Star Trek Day" is a particularly special occasion.
Set to take place on Tuesday, September 8, the 2026 edition of this annual celebration coincides with the 60th anniversary of the launch of the pioneering series.

And what better way to mark the occasion than by setting a world record?
Hundreds of fans are preparing to enter the Guinness World Records book by performing the largest simultaneous Vulcan salute at the Science Museum in London.
For those unfamiliar, the Vulcan salute is the famous hand gesture associated with Spock, the character played by Leonard Nimoy. It involves raising the hand with the palm facing forward, separating the middle and ring fingers to form a "V" shape, while keeping the thumb extended outward the ideal execution, as performed by the first officer himself.
The gesture first appeared in a 1967 episode of the TV series titled "Amok Time," and is often accompanied by the well-known phrase "Live long and prosper."
If confirmed by an official adjudicator, this simultaneous performance of the Vulcan salute will set a new Guinness World Record, since no record currently exists in this category.
Glenn Morgan, Head of Collections and Lead Curator at the Science Museum in London, said: "It feels very special to bring Star Trek fans together at the Science Museum for an official attempt at a Guinness World Record on Star Trek Day."
He added: "For 60 years, the Star Trek franchise has combined bold storytelling with big questions about science, technology, and what might be possible in the future themes that sit at the very heart of the Science Museum's mission."
He continued: "Following the successful 'Star Trek Lates' evening event earlier this year, we're delighted to invite fans back for another evening to explore the ideas, imagination, and real-world science behind the franchise, and to offer one last chance to experience the 'Star Trek Warp Trail.'"
The free "Star Trek Warp Trail" experience features a number of costumes and props used in the series and films, exploring the ongoing relationship between the franchise's visionary storytelling and real-world scientific innovation. The popular trail is set to close on Sunday, September 13.
Elsewhere around the world, "Trekkies" won't be short of ways to celebrate the 60th anniversary, as public events, special screenings, and partnerships are being organized across the globe next week.
