The event marked the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11 and honored 14 Arab female scientists from the MENA region for their groundbreaking research in the fields environmental and computer sciences, psychics, and mathematics.

The scientists were PhD students and post-doctorate researchers, the statement said, underscoring their role in solving today’s challenges as well as inspiring the future generation of women.

According to the latest UNESCO Science Report published in June 2021, although 33 percent of researchers worldwide are women, the number of women of women in science is not increasing quickly enough, the statement said.

The program is part of the L’Oréal-UNESCO global “For Women in Science” initiative that has recognized over 3,900 researchers and 122 laureates from more than 110 countries and regions since its inception in 1998.
