Building licenses jump in first 8 months of year

AMMAN — The total area of licensed buildings in the Kingdom shot up by 72.8 percent in the first 8 months of the current year, reaching 5.456 million square meters, compared to 3.158 million square meters reported in the same period of 2020.اضافة اعلان

According to figures released by the Department of Statistics, the number of building licenses in the January-August period also jumped by 62.7 percent to a total of 17,268 licenses compared with 10,612 licenses in the corresponding period of 2020.

The area of residential buildings soared to 4.798 million square meters in the eight-month period, revealing an increase of 76.4 percent when compared with the 2.27 million square meters recorded in the same period of 2020, the department said.

Similarly, the total area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes showed an increase of 50.2 percent to about 658,000 square meters, compared with around 438,000 square meters in the same period last year.

Buildings licensed for residential purposes made up 89.9 percent of the total area of licensed buildings, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

In its geographic breakdown of the data, the department said that the central region of the Kingdom accounted for 65.9 percent of the total area of licensed buildings, followed by the northern and southern regions at 24.7 and 9.4 percent, respectively.
