According to the quarterly report on wholesale trade prices issued by the Department of Statistics on Sunday, the rise in the general wholesale price index for the first quarter of this year—compared to the same quarter last year—was driven by increases in the following groups: sales of motor vehicles, parts, and motorcycles by 2.98%, sales of agricultural raw materials, grains, food products, beverages, and tobacco by 1.82%, and sales of textiles, clothing, and personal and household goods by 0.66%. Meanwhile, prices for the sale of machinery, equipment, and supplies declined by 0.55%, and prices for the sale of fuel, metals, construction materials, and related supplies fell by 0.16%.

The report also noted that the general wholesale price index for the first quarter of this year increased to 108.74 points, up from 108.19 points in the fourth quarter of last year—an increase of 0.51%.

Among the main commodity groups that contributed to this quarter-on-quarter increase were: sales of motor vehicles, parts, and motorcycles (up 1.58%), agricultural raw materials, grains, food, beverages, and tobacco (up 1.01%), and sales of machinery and equipment (up 0.79%). In contrast, prices declined in the textiles, clothing, personal and household goods group (down 0.75%) and in the fuel, metals, and construction materials group (down 0.21%).
