According to statistical data released by the Chamber, the number of certificates of origin issued during the 11-month period increased to 38,275 certificates, compared with 36,325 certificates in the same period last year.

The data showed that the total value of certificates of origin issued during the past 11 months declined by 3%, falling to JOD 1.237 billion, compared with JOD 1.275 billion in the corresponding period last year.

The figures indicated that Iraq topped the list of countries importing from the Kingdom in terms of the value of certificates of origin during the same period, with a value of approximately JOD 540 million and 3,207 certificates issued. Saudi Arabia came next with JOD 100 million and 9,625 certificates.

This was followed by Egypt with a value of JOD 86.2 million and 917 certificates, Switzerland with JOD 86.1 million and 25 certificates, and Syria with a value of about JOD 76 million and 3,265 certificates. These countries ranked among the top five in terms of both number and value.

In terms of product types, the value of the Chamber’s exports over the past 11 months amounted to JOD 606 million for foreign-origin products (goods of non-Jordanian origin), approximately JOD 232 million for industrial products, JOD 173 million for agricultural products, JOD 103 million for Arab-origin products (goods of Arab origin), with the remainder attributed to other products.

It is worth noting that a certificate of origin is a document used in international trade to certify that goods in a specific shipment were produced, manufactured, or processed in a particular country. Customs authorities use it to determine the eligibility of goods for tariff classification and to verify their country of origin.

The Amman Chamber of Commerce issues certificates of origin for Jordanian agricultural and animal products, raw natural resources, foreign goods that are re-exported, and foreign goods purchased from the local market under specific conditions.

It also issues certificates of origin for Jordanian industrial products upon the exporter’s request, based on the original factory invoice certified by an industrial chamber and an original, duly certified certificate of origin issued by an industrial chamber confirming that the goods are of Jordanian origin. This is in accordance with Article (29) of the Jordan Chambers of Commerce Regulation No. (45) of 2009 and the Instructions for Issuing Certificates of Origin for 2013. (Petra)
