Goldman Sachs has raised its forecast for the price of gold by the end of 2026 to $5,400 per ounce, up from a previous projection of $4,900 per ounce, citing increased diversification of investments by the private sector and central banks in emerging markets.

Gold hit an unprecedented peak of $4,887.82 per ounce on Wednesday. The precious metal, considered a safe haven, has risen by more than 11% since the beginning of 2026 so far, continuing a strong upward trend after gaining 64% last year.
In a note, Goldman Sachs said: “We expect private-sector diversification buyers, whose purchases are aimed at hedging against global policy risks and which drove the surprise upward revision in our price forecasts, not to liquidate their gold holdings in 2026. This effectively raises the starting point for our price outlook.” (Reuters)
