The U.S. military’s United States Central Command announced that the United States carried out additional strikes against Iran on Saturday, targeting various sites, including military surveillance infrastructure.
In a statement, CENTCOM said: “U.S. Central Command forces conducted strikes today in direct response to Iran’s continued aggression against commercial shipping.”
The statement added: “Following the U.S. strikes conducted yesterday in response to the Iranian attack on the vessel Ever Lovely, Iran was given an opportunity to comply with the ceasefire agreement. However, it chose not to do so when its forces launched a drone attack targeting the oil tanker Keiko earlier today.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s state broadcasting organization reported, citing a military source, that several projectiles struck a village on Qeshm Island.
The latest developments mark a further escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran, despite the existence of a ceasefire framework and ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalation.
