Washington — U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that Iran is on the verge of defeat, but warned that U.S. forces are capable of escalating their strikes to a point where rebuilding the country would become "nearly impossible."

"They are almost at the end of the line," Trump told reporters in Washington.
He added, "We can hit areas in Tehran and elsewhere, and if we do that, it will be nearly impossible for them to rebuild their country, and that is not what we want."
Israel and the United States have been launching airstrikes on Iran since Saturday, February 28, which led to the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Since then, Tehran has retaliated by striking Israel and other countries in the region with missiles and drones.
Additionally, Iran has enforced a naval blockade on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, targeting oil tankers that attempted to transit.
