US President Donald Trump sharply criticized Spain on Wednesday, announcing that the United States intends to halt all trade transactions with the country, while reiterating accusations that Madrid has failed to meet its defense spending commitments for NATO.

"Spain is a loser case. We no longer want to have any trade transactions with Spain," Trump said upon his arrival at the NATO summit in Ankara.
For his part, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte defended Spain, pointing to "the important step it took last year" regarding its military spending, just before the official opening of the NATO summit in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
Trump has repeatedly criticized Madrid for its refusal to allow the United States to use military bases to carry out airstrikes during the ongoing war in the Middle East since the end of February.
