U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the meeting scheduled to take place this week in Doha, Qatar, between the United States and Iran “may be important, or it may not be,” indicating that its significance will become clear in time.
Speaking to reporters from the Oval Office, Trump said that the United States is making “very good progress” in efforts aimed at Iran’s nuclear disarmament.
He confirmed that a round of talks will be held in Doha on Tuesday and noted that the U.S. delegation is preparing to depart for Qatar to participate in the discussions.
“Doha could be an important meeting, and we’ll find out later,” Trump said, adding that the United States is “making very good progress in the effort to eliminate Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities.”
