On Wednesday, Iranian Chief Negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Iran and the United States to halt the war in the Middle East is a "declaration of defeat for America."

Speaking at a conference in Azerbaijan broadcast by Iranian state television, Qalibaf asserted that "the Islamabad MoU was not the result of pressure or coercion, but rather the outcome of the brave Iranian nation's resistance and determination."
He continued, "Therefore, the Islamabad MoU has turned into a declaration of defeat for America," emphasizing that the countries of the Middle East are the ones who should take charge of the region's security.
"We believe that the future of the region lies in interaction, not confrontation," Qalibaf added, in what appeared to be an extended hand to neighboring countries in the region.
Qalibaf also reaffirmed Iran's stance that peace in Lebanon is a fundamental issue in any final agreement with Washington.
He stated, "In our view, the ceasefire in Lebanon was and remains as important as the ceasefire in Iran, and the end of the war in Lebanon was as important as the end of the war in Iran."
