The Senate’s Legal Committee approved the amended draft law on Thursday as received from the House of Representatives, during a meeting attended by Minister of Justice Bassam Al-Talhouni and Minister of State for Legal Affairs Fayez Al-Qudah.

The reasons behind the amendments to the Military Service Law include regulating provisions related to new legal requirements to activate and implement the national service program, defining acceptable cases for postponement, and empowering the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army to provide training programs at its centers and institutes. These programs may be counted by relevant educational institutions as part of university study requirements for students, in accordance with regulations issued by the Council of Ministers for this purpose, and also counted within the requirements and duties of military national service.

Additionally, the amendments remove provisions that grant priority employment in ministries, public departments, government institutions, and private companies to individuals who complete national service.
