The Public Security Directorate’s media spokesperson said a report was received by the Preventive Security Department and the Royal Department for Environmental Protection about the discovery of thousands of empty containers that had previously held imported olive oil in Irbid Governorate.
The discovery raised suspicions that unidentified individuals were carrying out widespread olive oil adulteration operations with the aim of selling the product at local market prices.
The spokesperson said a specialized investigation team was immediately formed from the Preventive Security Department and the Royal Department for Environmental Protection to follow up on the case and gather information.
Through swift investigative measures, the team narrowed its suspicions to a farm in Irbid Governorate. The farm was raided, those inside were arrested, and 5,000 olive oil containers were seized after being concealed on the premises. Another quantity of empty containers previously used for imported olive oil was also found at the farm.
The seized quantities were placed under custody, and samples were sent for the necessary laboratory testing. The investigation is still ongoing.
The spokesperson added that joint inspection and investigation teams have been formed to monitor the production and sale of olive oil.
The Public Security Directorate urged consumers to purchase olive oil only from trusted sources and to avoid buying through pages and websites circulating on social media.
