Speaking on Wednesday, Washah stated that 30 to 40 violations related to unlicensed transport apps are recorded weekly. She noted that social media platforms have contributed to the spread of this negative phenomenon.

Awareness and Regulation
The LTRC’s Media and Communication Unit has launched an awareness campaign targeting citizens, emphasizing that the issue of unlicensed passenger transport requires serious intervention. Washah explained that managing and regulating these apps falls under the mandate of the commission’s Regulatory Committee.

The committee tracks statistics and identifies violators in accordance with the Passenger Transport Regulation Law of 2017. The LTRC has begun implementing this campaign across its digital platforms, in cooperation with relevant authorities, to curb the practice.

Legal Penalties
The spokesperson revealed that the penalty for practicing any passenger transport services or internal transport services without a license is a fine ranging from a minimum of 1,000 JOD to a maximum of 5,000 JOD.
