AMMAN — The General Manager of the Jordanian Farmers Union, Mahmoud Al-Auran, reassured the public that Jordanian watermelon is safe and free from any reported safety concerns. In a statement, Auran emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture ensures continuous monitoring of watermelon to guarantee its safety and quality. He acknowledged that there have been isolated cases of individuals experiencing fatigue after consuming watermelon, Saraya News reported. However, he emphasized that this should not be interpreted as the watermelon being "unfit for consumption." These cases may be attributed to possible exposure to viruses due to recent weather conditions in Jordan, including heavy dust caused by strong winds. In light of these incidents, he urged social media activists not to spread false information and encouraged them to obtain reliable information from trusted sources. He stressed the importance of avoiding the dissemination of misinformation, particularly when it comes to food-related matters, to prevent confusion among citizens. Regarding watermelon prices, Auran noted that they are lower this season compared to the previous year. He explained that a temporary increase in prices occurred for three days due to flooding in the recent depression areas of Deisah and Al-Ghuwairah, which caused significant damage to a large quantity of watermelons. He further clarified that the current rainy season in Jordan has been favorable, and it has had a positive impact on water resources in the country.
