The General Iftaa’ Department is scheduled to observe the crescent of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH / 2026 AD on Tuesday evening.

The sighting will take place at sunset, in the presence of the Iftaa’ Council, members of the moon-sighting committee including Sharia and astronomy scholars, and representatives from the Royal Geographical Center.اضافة اعلان

Amar Al-Sakaji, President of the Jordanian Astronomical Society, previously stated that astronomical data indicate the angular separation between the moon and the sun on Tuesday will be around one degree or even less in some areas. This extremely low value means the moon will appear very close to the sun and completely engulfed in its intense glare.

Al-Sakaji added that attempting to locate the moon under these conditions—especially by looking directly through a telescope eyepiece, using a spotting device, or any traditional optical magnification—poses a real risk to eye safety.

According to astronomical calculations, he emphasized that crescent observation under these circumstances is impossible. The extremely small angular separation and other data confirm that seeing the crescent is not feasible. Observers are urged to prioritize public safety, as preserving eyesight is far more important than any high-risk observation attempt.

The International Astronomy Center also stated that the Ramadan crescent for 1447 AH on Tuesday, 17 February, will be impossible to observe from all Arab and Islamic countries, whether with the naked eye, a telescope, or even advanced astronomical imaging technologies.
