AMMAN — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi on Monday met with Anna Lindh, his Swedish counterpart, and
Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner general of UNRWA, to discuss an upcoming
conference on stimulating sustainable financial and political support for the
relief agency.
The conference will be held in the last quarter of 2021, and its
participants are expected to approve effective strategies that ensure support for
the agency’s mission towards 5 million Palestinian refugees.
Safadi added that UNRWA’s impact on Palestine is indisputable,
as evidenced by its provision of humanitarian aid to Gazans following Israel’s latest
attack on the Gaza Strip.
Philippe Lazzarini presented a brief about the UNRWA
financial status and its future plans, stressing that long-term financial plans
must be established to provide endless support for refugees.
