Jordan MPs Urge Global Action Over Al-Aqsa Violations

In a statement issued on Friday, the committee denounced the incursions led by far-right ministers in the Israeli government, accompanied by settlers under heavy protection from Israeli police and special forces. It also condemned what it described as provocative acts, including raising the Israeli flag inside the mosque compound and setting up tents in its courtyards during events marking the so-called anniversary of the destruction of the Temple.

Committee Chairman MP Haitham Ziadin said these actions constitute a blatant violation of the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites, and an infringement on the sanctity of one of Islam’s holiest places.

He added that what he described as systematic Israeli provocations and incitement to hold unprecedented religious rituals inside the compound fuel hatred and extremism, pushing the region toward further escalation and undermining international and regional efforts to achieve peace and stability.

Committee members reaffirmed their full support for Jordan’s diplomatic efforts, as well as the positions of Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and fellow Arab and Islamic countries in confronting these violations. They also stressed the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in preserving the city’s identity and safeguarding Al-Aqsa Mosque as a place of worship for Muslims.

The committee also called on the international community, as well as regional and international parliamentary organizations, to take a firm stance and act urgently to stop what it described as systematic Israeli violations, urging Israeli authorities to respect international legitimacy and the historical and legal status quo in occupied Jerusalem in order to preserve regional security and stability.
