The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) destroyed tens of thousands of goods and products that violated technical regulations and standards during the first half of 2026. The move is part of its inspection campaigns to protect consumers and regulate markets.
JSMO stated that its teams conducted 2,809 inspection tours, resulting in the referral of 226 facilities to judicial authorities, while 13 facilities were shut down due to violations requiring legal action.
The organization noted that the most prominent destroyed goods included counterfeit clothing and footwear, small household electrical appliances, children's toys, cosmetics, and detergents, as these sectors recorded the highest number of violations during the period.
According to JSMO, the destroyed items included 40,639 children's toys, 43,810 cosmetic products, and 27,387 electrical extensions, plugs, and lighting chains.
JSMO added that its personnel carried out the 2,809 inspection tours and field visits from the beginning of the year until the end of June, detecting violations and taking legal measures against non-compliant establishments.
The organization emphasized that the destruction operations follow approved instructions tailored to the nature and components of each product. A specialized committee oversees the process in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment to ensure all items are disposed of safely and in accordance with current legislation.
