The agreement was signed Wednesday by the chairman of the board of commissioners of ASEZA, Nayef Bakhit, representative of Sayegh Group, Michelle Al-Sayegh, and representative of the Aqaba Education Company, Osama Madi.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on Wednesday, Bakheet said the medical university is an investment project that empowers other projects and supports the education and health sectors, as well as encourage investors to invest in Aqaba, in addition to attracting 60 percent of foreign students who come to Jordan to study, especially those from neighboring countries.

The Ministry of Higher Education had approved the university’s license, and infrastructure work has started. The building next to the ASEZA will be used as the teaching hospital.

Bakhit said that the university will support education tourism in Aqaba and will contribute to the provision of trained staff and technical medical personnel to support the Jordanian medical sector in general.

He pointed out that the authority has offered important advantages to investors from material incentive, exemptions, as well as providing the investment environment.

The Aqaba Medical Science Company, which owns the university, has started all legal procedures, and all tenders for the establishment of the university are ready to be submitted and work should start.

Bakhit said that the company had planned to complete work on the university by June 2022, and students should start studies there by September of the same year.

For his part, Madi said that the university will include a faculty of human medicine, a faculty of dentistry, a faculty of medical management, and one of medical supportive services, in addition to a 200-bed teaching hospital that will include all medical specialties.

He said the university will provide approximately 1,000 jobs for the local community.
