A delegation from the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the Mashreq Countries reaffirmed the importance of Jordan’s role in supporting regional stability and security, stressing the strength of the partnership between the European Union and the Kingdom.
The remarks came during an official visit by the European Parliament delegation to Jordan on September 22 and 23, 2026, for the 13th EU-Jordan Interparliamentary Meeting, led by François-Xavier Bellamy, chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the Mashreq Countries.
Bellamy said that “at a time when the region is witnessing renewed tensions, Jordan’s contribution to stability and security is particularly important.” He added that the European Parliament recognizes the pressures Jordan faces as a result of conflicts in its neighborhood, as well as the important role it continues to play in supporting refugees and addressing humanitarian challenges.
The meetings focused on parliamentary relations between the EU and Jordan, bilateral ties, and the role of both sides in addressing threats to peace and security in the region and beyond.
The delegation reaffirmed the strong EU-Jordan partnership, including support for Jordan’s political and economic modernization and public administration reforms.
Discussions covered the implementation of the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership established in January 2025, backed by a €3 billion financial package for 2025-2027, as well as growing cooperation in security and defense, including through the European Peace Facility.
“Jordan is a key partner for the European Union, both bilaterally and in the region,” Bellamy said, noting that parliamentary dialogue is an important part of the partnership and provides an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and joint efforts to address challenges in the shared neighborhood.
Regarding the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution, the European Parliament delegation reaffirmed its commitment to a political horizon that provides a sustainable basis for peace, security and mutual respect for human dignity within the framework of a negotiated two-state solution.
The delegation also discussed Jordan’s contribution to regional stability, including its role in humanitarian efforts related to Gaza and the West Bank.
Regional security featured prominently in the discussions amid renewed escalation and attacks from Iran, with the delegation expressing the European Union’s solidarity with Jordan.
The talks also addressed the situation in Syria, including Jordan’s continued role in hosting Syrian refugees.
The delegation visited the Azraq Refugee Camp and an EU-funded wastewater management project in Balqa, underscoring the importance of continued Jordanian-European cooperation in supporting refugees, water management and sustainable development.
The delegation’s meetings with civil society representatives also addressed developments in Jordan and the country’s ongoing modernization process, including human rights, particularly women’s rights.
The 13th EU-Jordan Interparliamentary Meeting underscored the importance of maintaining a strong and forward-looking partnership between the two sides and continuing parliamentary engagement in support of cooperation, dialogue and regional stability.
